Inaugural Great Locomotive Race

The inaugural Great Locomotive 5K and 1K on September 12, 2009 was a huge success, with nearly 300 people racing through the streets of downtown Kennesaw. The race ended in front of the Southern Museum, and led into the Taste of Kennesaw annual event.

The event was sponsored by several local businesses including Cobb EMC, GasSouth, the City of Kennesaw and Operation Boot Camp at the “Texas” level ($1,000). Eaton Chiropractic, Hester Eye Associates, O’Neill Communications, Allstate Dorris Agency, Great Harvest Bread Co., Big Peach Running Co., Sweet Tomatoes, Legacy Promotional Group, Kroger and Cohutta Mountain Spring Water were all “Yonah” sponsors ($250).
The first place winners of the 5K were Stephen Bell, with a time of 16 minutes, 37 seconds, and Kelley Lowe Colenbaugh, with a time of 21 minutes, 27 seconds.
